Have fun! I don't advise sea bathing though unless you're one of these hardy types that does it all year round as a matter of course...

According to Jane Austen in "Mansfield Park", the Sneyd's liked to go to Brighton. One of their ladies, Harriet, born 1795, went to Calcutta to marry the cavalry scholar Aide to the Governor General Turner Macan. He died in 1836 and a few years later she married a long standing friend, William Henry Whitbread, then head of the firm and family. The Shah of Persia and Princes of India used to pop up to see her and pay their respects. A daughter became Countess of Antrim and a grand daughter Countess of Home. Her second marriage brought her into close contact with the Grey's and therefore Court. A very interesting lady who needs a decent biographer.

A fascinating character, and my visit to Brighton does have a Jane Austen connection...
